At times, I feel as if I have to justify my opinions with citations, but not with this one because everyone who has listened closely to this man can see it now. While Israel dragged the US into a war with Iran, Islamic countries are holding back on violence and Sam Harris’s insight was to call Muslims barbaric while Israel dropped charges for an IDF gang rape of a Palestinian captive, their incursions into Lebanon, and their political assassinations.
He is spending way too much time criticizing Tucker Carlson for simply asking tough questions and constantly assuming the intent being anti-Semitic with no evidence to support his frankly hateful rhetoric to anyone criticizing Israel; he’s also been conspicuously silent about Pete Hegseth’s Armageddon rhetoric, Erika Kirk’s insistence on transforming Turning Point USA’s advocacy into traditional gender roles to reinforce a Talibanization of Christianity, and how Pete Hegseth – in his own words – sees himself in Taliban fighters and wants to make a Christian version of it in the US. Sam Harris is spending more time criticizing Tucker Carlson for questioning the War with Iran, he claims Candace Owens is a nutjob conspiracy theorist, and yet, he’s being very silent about the very explicit and real desire by Turning Point USA to make a White Christian version of the Taliban in the US and to incorporate it into the US military. The point being that there’s a definite disparity in this criticism that he’s deliberately refusing to acknowledge. He’s not an idiot, his selective criticisms during the ongoing war with Iran are deliberate. He claimed to be sincere and he’s behaving like an opportunist seeking to please the Israel lobbyists and Zionist billionaires over fact-finding research, truth, or evidence-based reasoning.
However, let us just set aside Sam Harris’s favorable bias towards Israel to the point he always flip-flops on whether to support US wars on Islamic countries or not and that he gives noncommittal responses to the point that his own fanbase claims people take him out of context without actually understanding his arguments. He’s clearly trying to shut down any Free Speech criticisms of Israel, he argues Joe Rogan needs to stop hosting apparent crackpots who make conspiracy theories, and it’s so blatant with how he vilifies Tucker Carlson and Candace Owens. He constantly accuses the latter two of being anti-Semites with allusions or says they align with White Nationalists just for having open conversations. This is in stark contrast to when he was hosting Charles Murray to give Murray an opportunity to speak on his race science views on Black IQ levels and Sam Harris presented that as forbidden knowledge. Okay, so if talking about supposed lower IQs in Black people from Charles Murray’s biased research is open to questioning, then why not anti-Semitism too? I don’t agree with anti-Jewish hatred and I don’t agree with the arguments about Black IQ levels being lower based on what I know. My point is this: if Sam Harris is open to questioning “forbidden knowledge” about Black IQ levels, then why not other White Nationalist talking points? Who is he to determine what is or is not forbidden knowledge about arguments typically made by White Nationalists? Is he now trying to be the arbiter of what White Nationalist opinions should be acceptable to talk about in public discourse, since he’s vilifying Candace Owens and Tucker Carlson for exactly the same thing that he did when it came to White Nationalist talking points? Sam Harris is the one who normalized this in the first place and doubled-down on it in Ezra Klein’s podcast. I want to be clear; my takeaway was on Ezra’s side of that debate in opposition to Sam Harris. What I want to convey is asking you all this: What did Sam Harris expect to happen when he himself is the one who led the charge for normalizing this line of inquiry before either Owens or Carlson? Does he believe in Free Speech or not? He cannot claim that we should be open to forbidden knowledge and then argue the ones that make him feel uncomfortable cannot be debated in open discourse. He was clearly unable to listen to his critics like Ezra Klein who warned him about this eventual result in the first place. At the very least, this speaks to a lack of self-reflection and an inability to recognize the long-term consequences of actions that he supported when it was convenient for himself to pretend to be an aggrieved intellectual so he could get more money from his fanbase.
Sam Harris has never once admitted that he was wrong about anything, he only ever says that he’s had the pleasure of changing his mind. When proven thoroughly wrong about the Epstein files being a supposed “nothing-burger” – a viewpoint that is conveniently aligned to Israel’s national interests – he proceeded to laugh about it. That would be fine as an immediate reaction, if not for the fact that he’s doing everything in his power to ignore it now. Immediate responses can vary due to how daunting the Epstein files feel to people, but he is pretending it doesn’t exist. After laughing about it, he didn’t critically engage with the findings in the Epstein files and instead, he immediately pivoted to ignoring it in his next podcast to double-down on how regressive Islam is. This is behavior that is aligned with Israeli interests and it is at the expense of the human rights of American children.
I don’t claim to be an expert on his views, but every time I heard him in his public discussions; he would talk about his idea of the moral landscape, he would talk about how science can answer moral questions, and how Islam is uniquely violent compared to other religions. That was my takeaway from listening to him on and off from 2007 to the 2020s albeit I didn’t pay as much attention to him after around 2013 – 2014. I decided to watch and listen to his reactions to the Epstein files and I’m left disappointed in that he’s proving to be a complete fraud. I do not mean that as a joke or a meme. I believe that Sam Harris has completely and utterly destroyed his career, because every time that he refuses to talk about the Epstein files . . . he is betraying his fanbase. If you are a fan of Sam Harris, I’m asking you: How has he not betrayed you? Every time that he remains silent about it is a betrayal of any trust that you put in him as an informed intellectual who can give insights into spirituality, daily life, or any rigorous intellectual discussion on morals. He talked fervently about the regressive morality of Islam and how it was uniquely violent, he always emphasized the moral difference between the West and Islam and even once used Hindu society in India as an example. Yet, now that less than half the Epstein files have been released? Sam Harris is conspicuously silent about a global pedophile cabal conducted by an Israeli Access agent wherein the US Federal government willfully covered it up and did not prosecute US billionaire pedophiles who were raping little girls as young as seven-years of age. This is the most obvious challenge to his beliefs and his arguments about morality for over two decades and he’s completely refusing to engage with it at all. He’s not even engaging in the evidence showing that Jeffrey Epstein was a Jewish Kabbalist with some overlap with Judeo-Christian occult beliefs of Thelema. He’s not engaging in the fact that Jeffrey Epstein repeatedly displays Jewish racial supremacy or that the Zorro Ranch findings show that US billionaires have Judeo-Christian Kabbalah race science beliefs. The Judeo-Christian billionaires believe they’ll become immortal using gene editing due to their faith-based beliefs and Biblical social values about the mythological Tree of Life’s power to grant immortality in the Bible. Sam Harris has put his head in the sand towards all of it, because it is information that is critical of Israel’s involvement and it is proof that his beliefs about morality were completely wrong.
In the end, Chris Hedges’s criticisms have proven prophetic about Sam Harris. Sam Harris’s moral landscape failed to overcome the Judeo-Christian concept of Original Sin that Hedges posited as a counter to him. If it cannot overcome even that pathetic belief, then it never had a future. Every time that Sam Harris looks away from the Epstein files is a betrayal to his entire fanbase and everyone who ever believed in him. His actions speak louder than his words: he never really cared about his own value systems that he argued in favor of. Finally, I can’t help but note that he argued for what was effectively an abridged version of utilitarian ethics judging from his discussions and his entire life history has become an abridged version of John Stuart Mill’s own moral failings about human rights.
